COPS Local- 9111 continues to grow at a rapid pace since its affiliation with NCPSO/CWA. Several new units have affiliated with COPS, including Atwater POA and Bear Valley police, California City POA, and Kern Co. Sheriffs Commanders Association. Also, many California State Hospital Police have joined COPS for its outstanding legal representation plan. "Our affiliation with NCPSO/CWA has breathed new life into COPS," said Monty Holden, COPS Executive Director. "Police officers throughout California are beginning to take a renewed interest in the excellent labor, legal, and legislative services that COPS has to offer."

Holden also noted that COPS would be conducting its first annual convention on July 12-14 in San Diego at the Red Lion Hanalei Hotel. The program includes specialized training by CLEAT President Ron DeLord on how police associations can build power through politics, confrontation, and other means, a session on workers' compensation issues, and a discussion of current political issues in California, presented by COPS' two legislative representatives Kelley Moran and Bill Hemby.

"COPS has learned from our NCPSO/CWA locals in Arizona and Texas about the importance of holding an annual convention to reinvigorate our leaders and members." Holden said.
"I want to thank AZCOPS and CLEAT for their help in making this program a reality."

Another development is that COPS has just hired its first full-time attorney to augment the work being done for many years by COPS attorneys Larry Katz and Lou Silver. Jay Trinnaman started to work for COPS in May and will concentrate his efforts on affiliated organizations in Central and Southern California. Jay Trinnaman graduated from Tulane Law School and Vanderbilt University. Following law school, he served as a clerk for the Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has worked for the last 2 years for the law firm of Harrington, Foxx, Dubrow & Canter, where he specialized in police labor law and litigation. His interests are in professional and amateur athletics, film and travel.
