El Paso MPOA Settles Favorable Health Insurance Re-opener

August 20, 2007

The El Paso Municipal Police Officers Association (EPMPOA) - NCPSO/CWA Local 7012, has just settled a re-opener on health insurance.  given all of the uncertainty over health care premiums and benefits, this settlement came out well for EPMPOA.  The settlement included a 90/10 policy with a $250 individual annual deductible, $750 annual deductible for the family, and $1,000 maximum out of pocket per individual.  It included a $20 co-pay for doctor visits and 100% coverage on x-rays and lab work.  The premiums will be: $210 a month for family, $170 a month for individual + 1, and $80 a month for employee only.  There is also a second year commitment for only a 5% increase in premiums.  Prescriptions are $10 for generic, $20 for preferred, and $40 for non-preferred.  EPMPOA President Bobby Holguin cited the excellent data collection and analysis on health insurance benefits by the CWA Research Department, and strength of its affiliate CLEAT and CWA in moving the City toward a settlement.  The EPMPOA membership will be voting on the tentative agreement shortly.
